OAKWOOD Northern Line
(supplementary entry)
From Oakwood, a large, airy station, you can get to the lovely Trent Park by a back way. Please note that this is suitable only on dry days and not for anyone with a buggy etc. When you exit Oakwood Tube station turn right and cross the busy road by the traffic island. Walk past Snake Lane and the golf course (there is a lovely view to be glimpsed between the gaps in the hedgerow). In about ten minutes you will see a sign for the Equestrian Centre. Turn into the stables and go across to a large white gate on the left. Go through the kissing gate at the side of this and you are in the car park.( Please be careful in this area, watching out for horses, vans, etc. and keeping dogs on a lead and children under control). Walk diagonally to the right towards a little pathway between trees. Following this will bring you out into a wooded area of Trent Park. For the delights to be found there, please see the entry for Cockfosters. If there has been recent rain or you have a buggy then Snakes Lane, going towards the Middlesex University campus, is the other option. Although it is a long straight lane (about 800m), and goes uphill towards the end, it is a pleasant walk, with woodland on either side.

(This is a pdf., so takes a little longer to download than other links)
Oakwood is just one walk from the many to be found at London Tube Rambles. There are architectural gems, beautiful country views, historic places and whacky buildings to be found, even in the most unpromising areas covered by the Greater London Underground stations. Usually the places listed are within a mile of the Tube - often only five minutes walk away. If you reached this as an individual page via a search engine, you might like to go to www.londontuberambles.co.uk to see the other destinations explored . You'll be amazed at what's out there!
