From West Ham Tube station you can get to the Greenway that runs from Bow to Beckton. To reach it, turn right from the station, then right again into Manor Road. Cross Jack Clow Road and at the bridge take the steps or easy access route to the top of the embankment.

Please go to the BOW ROAD entry for a description of the magnificent Victorian Abbey Mills Pumping station which you can see by walking a few  metres left when you reach the raised path. 

The East London Cemetery is about fifteen minutes walk in the opposite direction.  This is not one of the grand burial grounds - you can see from the photo that there are some very personal memorials.  Also to be found are the graves of East Enders who perished in various disasters.  It's a fascinating place, but no photography allowed.
